My personal take on issues and concerns in the anti-malware and security field. More ramblings on technology as well, surely.

Remote Access: Dell DRAC5
Out-of-Band (OOB) Remote Access isn't really new, its just a better version of remote control that covers all events including hardware monitoring which is the common limitation when remotely managing servers in locations (ie. data centers and honeypots) that have limited manpower or technological capacity.
I've been playing wth HP Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) before and have tried even the desktop version that Hewlitt Packard co-manufactured with Intel in the DC7700P series, some 2 years ago.
Right now, some learning was required when differentiating the installation of Dell's DRAC5 particularly between the PowerEdge 1950 and the PowerEdge 2900 (which isn't the same body as a PE2950). The realization is that DRAC5 pertains to the same card but depending on your server model its going to be a different set of DRAC cables. Why don't they just ship with both configurations in the first place?

Much ado about CableCARD
With travel winding down and finally a big-ass HDTV that supported CableCARD, the purchase never happened. What did however was a PlayStation 3 which when combined with a PSP and RemotePlay was functionally the same.
The gadget geek in me still wants one, and it appears the latest and last iteration of it in the market is the LF-V30. Prices have been falling (yey!) but so has the value of the green back.
CableCARD from Comcast still doesn't support
Video-on-Demand. Last night I came upon some info about Bravia Internet Video Link and how Sony looks to be helping hi-definition functions forward in the latest version called Tru2Way. Its been trying to get this done the last half-decade? Hey everyone, us customers are already paying so get your act straight and help clean-up clutter on our setups already!
Sony in the news. I like the fact that the new CEO is pushing reforms. There were rumours that NetFlix would be serving both the Xbox 360 and Playstation3 but that seems to have been unfounded. Instead, a major deal recently with movie studios (an edge that really makes sense) was inked and just may finally provide more content. I can't wait. :-)

Apple Care, so I don't have to!
Like many Mac fans who've had the opportunity to unfortunately but briefly part with their iPod, iPhone, MacBook (or any product that Apple Care covers) -- and get it fixed without loosing sweat, you know who you are, the warranty does run out eventually. So don't forget to renew.
This MacBook Pro is almost a year old with the default warranty, so its going to be time soon in June. But when, and how? Here's an easy self-service way to do so using the Apple Online Self-service Assistant.
Don't forget that your machine's serial number can be found by selecting the Apple Icon (top left) -> About this Mac -> Hardware tab

I recently got wind of OpenID. This post validates my Technorati Profile.
